Ultrasonic flaw detectors reveal defects in products and structures, which prevents failures. We have developed a revolutionary design of the CUD ultrasonic flaw detector, which expands the capabilities of typical devices with innovative functions. The design, construction and software of the device is carried out entirely by ZBM ULTRA, therefore it is possible to adapt its functionality to the individual needs of the customer. The CUD flaw detector has numerous improvements used in testing welded joints, castings, forgings, thickness measurements and determining elastic constants. We have prepared dedicated software for the device that guides the operator step by step by the examination process. This significantly simplifies and speeds up the process of testing repetitive elements, such as axles and wheel rims of railway wheelsets.

The CUD is the only flaw detector with an ultrasonic scanner designed for testing butt welded joints in accordance with EN ISO 11666 and EN ISO 17640. This solution uses three apparatus channels simultaneously. The research probe has a built-in surface wave receiver. The additional probe generates surface wave and is placed at the beginning of the joint being tested. Thanks to this, during the test, the flaw detector can determine the position of the research probe. As a result, it is possible to precisely locate the detected discontinuities. The flaw detector records the entire course of the examination, which allows to generate a report with automatic assessment of the indications. It takes the form of a Sonogram – a “map” of detected discontinuities.
ZBM ULTRA offers the only test procedure for thin welded joints with thicknesses from 2 to 8 mm recognized by the UDT (Polish Office of Technical Inspection) – IBUS-TD.
ZBM ULTRA offers the only test procedure for thin welded joints with thicknesses from 2 to 8 mm recognized by the UDT (Polish Office of Technical Inspection) – IBUS-TD.
Owners of CUD flaw detectors are granted a 25% discount on dedicated Tandem probes used in the IBUS-TD procedure.
Users of our CUD flaw detectors have numerous functions at their disposal that make testing of repeatable elements much easier. Two markers (gates) with independent gains are often used for casting examinations. However, examining elements with complex shapes with several probes can be accelerated by using the multi-channel functionality of the CUD flaw detector – changing the probe and flaw detectors settings is done by pressing one button.
The CUD flaw detector has a built-in thickness gauge function – so there is no need to purchase another device to perform simple thickness measurements. The device selects the gain itself and, based on the analysis of several reflected echoes, provides the measurement result with high accuracy.
The presented CUD flaw detector is entirely designed and manufactured by ZBM ULTRA. Therefore, it is possible to adapt it to the individual customer needs by expanding the software. For example, a methodology was developed for determining the elastic constants of materials based on measurements of the speed of propagation of longitudinal and transverse waves.
