The IBUS-TD instruction is the only classic method of testing butt welded joints with thicknesses ranging from 2 to 8 mm recognized by the Office of Technical Inspection (UDT) in Poland. Tests performed using it are accepted by UDT and other auditors. ZBM ULTRA grants a license necessary to perform tests of sub-supervision devices. The license is accompanied by staff training.
The assessment is performed based on the DAC curve from a Ø1 mm through hole. Calibration blocks are made by operators on materials identical to those being tested. As a result, corrections for material attenuation and surface roughness are compensated. The occurring indications are assessed in a simple way – indications above the curve are unacceptable. Performing tests according to IBUS-TD is simple and quick.
The IBUS-TD instruction uses special Tandem type probes (TD4T67° 7). Tandem flat probes are used for testing sheets or pipes with external diameters above DN200. For smaller pipe diameters, profiling is performed to any diameter specified by the customer. The probes are dual-transducer with frequencies of 4 MHz and a resultant angle of 67°. The probes cooperate with ultrasonic flaw detectors of all producers. After appropriate preparation, it is possible to perform tests in accordance with IBUS-TD of austenitic steels.
